Required Seeding System

The Required Seeding System will be going in place soon, a definite time/date is a secret. Could be today, tomorrow, 10 years from now, all we know is, it's called The Stig. But seriously.

Here's a run down of what you can expect.

First of all the most notable change will be up top in the 'stats bar' , No longer will you see a 'downloaded' amount, 'Ratio' of the 'Required Ratio'. Instead you will see only 'Uploaded Amount', 'Currently Seeding' count, 'Currently Leeching' count, and a 'Required'.

Most of them are pretty straight forward, the only one we are worried about as users is the 'Required' one which will be represented by a half circle with an arrow going clockwise. This is going to display your 'Required Seeds'. This is going to tell you the number of torrents that currently are required to be seeded by you. You can also click this to access your 'Required Seed' list that will display what you've downloaded, and show you what needs to be seeded, your ratio on that torrent, your active time on that torrent as well as the time left for you to seed on that torrent.

When a torrent is satisfied by seeding for 72 Hours after the torrent has reached 100%, or your ratio on that torrent is 1:1 (Ratio of 1.0 or higher) the 'Required Seed System' will display the torrent as being 'Completed' and it will be removed from your 'Required Seeds' number.

Automated

This system is full automated. It keeps track of all your stats for each torrent and it also will label that torrent as a HnR (Hit and Run) should the torrent fail to reach the required stats (72 Hours or 1:1). At anytime you are able to remove your HnR by seeding the file back.

When a user reaches a certain number of 'HnR's the system will take steps to make sure you are taking care of your account by issuing a warning, should you continue to 'HnR' the system will issue you a ban. We have set a certain number of HnRs allowed, but once that total is reached these consequences take place. It's more than a fair number.

What about existing my existing torrents?

Since this system is going in place, it's not going to be able to track what you've done before the system is in place. So we are giving you a free pass on all existing torrents. Which means they won't affect the system at all, but what you do from then on will.

Ratio?

Ratio is now just a statistic for everyone. We'd love for everyone to have a 1:1 Ratio or higher, but on some connections it's just not possible, especially when you are seeding a torrent with other peers. So from now on, it's basically just a statistic to brag about. We won't be using it for moderation since our 'Required Seed System' will handle these things.


Fleas, Ticks, and Other Bugs

This is a pretty large feature, and we've only been able to test it on a small scale between a few staff members, so once we drop it into Prime Time, there may be a few bugs. We ask that if you run into any, please take the time to post about them here, or PM the7egend or [/user]AtheistP3ace[/user] as soon as you encounter the bug. We are pretty confident it's going to be flawless, but you know how things have went in the past around this place *coughs* cache *coughs*.

Suggestions

If you see something that will benefit this system once it goes in place please make suggestions, this is a very custom tailored part of our site and we've tried to engineer the best system possible, but everyone has ideas and they are always welcome.

Ending

I believe that about sums it up. It's one of the biggest features coming to the site and hopefully lots of others in the near future. We hope that it's an effective method of making sure everyone keeps their torrents seeded and practice good user etiquette when it comes to it.

Side Note: We may add a 'HnR' count on the stats bar, but that may come in the future, currently we are only worried about showing you your 'required seeds' to encourage you to be a good user.
