[size=1.75em]We hit 50,000 movies today!
Congratulations to each and every one of you, this is a huge accomplishment. We've never been more proud of this site and it's users. Three years ago this seemed like a pretty impossible landmark to reach but now we're here.
To celebrate we're going to do a few different things.
- The 50,000th Movie - Congratulations to morgonkvist on uploading our 50,000th movie! They've been made VIP for the remainder of the month, sent 200,000 points and will be given both a user pick and custom title of their choosing. Since the rest of you can't enjoy that, we've also made the movie, Alleged, freeleech for the next 72 hours.
- Pass the Popcorn Mosaic Scavenger Hunt - We took the avatars of every user on the site and made it into one giant copy of our default avatar. There's a smaller version up top but to see the full, bandwidth-intensive, image click here. The first person to find all 14 staff avatars will win 200,000 bonus points and a free custom title. Once you've found all of the avatars, send esophagus a private message with all of the avatars in some way highlighted or distinguished from the rest of the mosaic. Click here for all of the staff avatars you'll need to look for, a couple of us have changed them since this was made so it is worth checking. Keep in mind, all of the images are squared so in some cases you're only looking for a part of the avatar. Edit: Congratulations to eatacow for being the first person to find all of the staff avatars and the other 9 users who rounded out the top 10.
- Staff picks - Each and every one of us selected a movie to celebrate the occasion. These picks will be freeleech for 72 hours after the time of this post to make sure you all get a chance to snatch them.

Jackie Brown
This is possibly my favorite Tarantino. Such a great movie. Happy 50k movies, and I'm looking forward to the next 50k .

The King of Comedy
It's a controversial opinion but this is not only my favorite Martin Scorsese movie but also just one of my favorites in general. It may not be that laugh-out-loud funny but it has the word comedy right in the title so it seems relevant enough to this month's contest. Congrats on 50,000 movies you guys!

300
Oh boy, 50k films on the site... awesome I know it's not 50.000 spartans, but with the release of Immortals on 11/11/11 and to celebrate the 50k th film, I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate by making 300 a staff pick. Which hasn't been before. It's spectacularly awesome, has a great soundtrack, it's beautiful to look at, and it has a decent story. I'll also be giving ONE MILLION POINTS to whoever makes an edit of the classic "this is Sparta!!!" into a "THIS IS PTP"!!!

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
One of my favorite comedies with Will Ferrell. I can watch this hundreds of times and still laugh non-stop, so I figured it would be a good pick to celebrate the great achievement of 50,000 movies! Good job everyone and I look forward to the times ahead!

Ben-Hur
William Wyler may not be the most gifted director, but with Ben-Hur of 1959 he made it all come together. Heston in the iconic title role is nothing shorter than magnificent, the sets are beautiful, the direction is spot-on, and the old script has new life. It is the true definition of EPIC - and so is reaching 50k movies - fucking well-done, guys! Much

Monster
I wanted to pick some nice movie that shows how much we you. So here it is. Charlize Theron's best role. I've to agree with the commenters: it is a very powerful movie, a brutal love story.

How To Train Your Dragon
This is a surprisingly good movie. I grabbed this on a whim and I thought it was just great. I half expected it to be a kids only movie, but it's not that at all. If you enjoy and appreciate good animation you'll like this. I may be the new guy here, but you good folks have done an amazing job here. 50,000 movies is an absolute ton! Still you folks keep finding great new movies to upload every day.. it's fantastic.

O Brother, Where Art Thou?
One of the (in my opinion) slightly lesser known movies by the Coen brothers. Great comedy and has a very catchy tune.

Gangs of New York
This is one of my favorite films by Martin Scorsese. I remember watching this when it first came out and thought the plot was awesome. I hope you enjoy this film as much as I do. 50k movies is a milestone no matter what tracker you are on. With the quality of our user base, we will be celebrating 100k movies in no time. Keep up the great work guys!

The Vicious Kind
I like Adam Scott and he has a very cool beard in this movie. I wish that I could grow a big beard. If I did I bet you that I would look like Mitchell from Modern Family. That would be the best. There is also a pretty girl in this movie that I wish was my girlfriend and the movie is very enjoyable! Holy guacamole 50k movies is this real life? You guys actually totally made this happen. You should be really proud of yourself. Talk about putting a dent in the world

Starship Troopers
Hot damn! You guys are amazing, everyday that I log into PTP I'm blown away by the amazing people that populate the place 50,000 unique movies is nothing short of astonishing. The only thing more amazing than getting to 50k movies, are the people who made it happen! I can think of no better way to say thank you than watching Bugs battle Fleet, in my book, you're all worthy of being Roughnecks, POPCORN'S ROUGHNECKS!

Perdita Durango AKA Dance with the Devil
I've been saving this pick for a particular occasion, and I can't think of a better time than this celebration! This film is nothing short from a f*@&ed-up journey that involves kidnapping, voodoo sacrifices, smuggling of unborn fetuses, and Rosie Perez's ample chi-chis. Seriously though, much to you all! |
