How to buffer on What.cd(From T-I Form)
http://image.torrent-invites.com/images/545wbuf.pngWelcome to the guide on What.cd buffering
So you want to build a nice buffer for yourself on What.cd, and don't get stuck with a lot of worthless freeleech sitting dormant on your harddrive?
Well you've come to the right place, I'll tell you how this is possible.
First some info on my setup and some explanation, then I'll move on to the good stuff.
I'm on a limited sized harddrive, and I dont want to fill my expensive seedbox with inanimate freeleech stuff
The seedbox is a 1gbit up/down, and it's not SSD.
I'm usings IRSSI, and not RSS, because irssi has more options for filtering. RSS cant filter tags, but only the EXCEPT MATCHES filter explained later in this post.
Instructions on setting up IRSSI at end of this post or click Guides
WARNING!! Do not use this with RSS and expect good results!!
This trick should work for most people (RuTorrent users, or any client the has the match releases and tags options will do), not only seedbox users, but the time to break even and get to ratiobuilding will take longer on a slower line obviously.
I'm using filters heavily to achieve my goal, but instead of filtering IN what I'm after, I'm filtering OUT what i don't want.
The reason for this is simple, uploaders try to use many tags to get as many as possible to download their stuff, and build them some ratio.
Unfortunately this means that someone with a lousy i.e. folkmusic torrent will add the tag pop if there's the slightest pop sounding tune in the music.
So in order to avoid this, I chose to filter OUT what nobody is downloading, and only let through whats moving bits around, and it works nicely this way.
I'm not saying this filtering is perfect, but it gets the job done with time (usually max 3 days on my connection) and the few files that gets though that is not moving are easily spotted and deleted after a few days, thus saving HDD space.
There was a few surprises for me along the way, which set me back.. but the working filter is catching up for the crap i needed to DL to figure out the filtering.
1st surprise: FLAC is NOT the most popular on What.cd, MP3 are the movers.
2nd surprise: V0 is worthless for buffering
3rd surprise: Music older than 2012 FORGET IT, it can break even but rarely do.
To support these statements I'll show you screenshots of different filters, and you can judge yourself.
First I'll show you what it should look like :)

"This in NOT ALL of the files i've downloaded, there are more below I'm not showing, most of them are close to 1:1 but about 5% are not moving, those I'll delete later"
Above is ONLY MP3 files from 2012 (more on this later)
Next is an example of FLAC
http://image.torrent-invites.com/images/111bad.jpg
"It did'nt take me long time to notice a negative patter here, so I stopped, but since FLAC is bigger in size I'm going to continue refining the filter to make them work too, if at all possible, and update this thread accordingly should I succed"
Above is ONLY FLAC from 2012 (more on this later)
Now to the really bad one V0
http://image.torrent-invites.com/images/358verybad.jpg
"It was obvious from the beginning V0 would be a ratiobuster, but I let them seed just to be sure, and they have hardly moved"
Above is ONLY V0 from 2012 (more on this later)
Im not gonna go into V1's and V2's, I dont need to test them to know they are not useable for buffering.
Also I've tested with filters from 2011 and backward to 1990, I'll leave a few examples as thumbnails, they dont deserve space in this post ;)
Below is releases from 1990-2011, MP3

Below is releases from 1990-2011, FLAC

Below is releases from 1990-2011, V0

From above I can deduct that MP3 from 2012 is the most efficient for buffering, flac comes in second and V0 is left in the dirt.
With this in mind I moved to step two.... the good stuff.
FILTERING
A picture says a thousand words, so lets look at the pics and then the explanation and details
GENERAL PANE
http://image.torrent-invites.com/images/785general.jpg
MATCH RELEASES = *2012*MP3*
Everyone should understand what this does.
EXCEPT RELEASES =
Code:
Looks weird ehh, well the explanation is, country specific music DONT MOVE ENOUGH for buffering in general, so those are out through as many country specific characters I could identify, this can still be improved.
Sampler, promo, demo and soundtracks are also bad, out with them.
MINIMUM & MAXIMUM size is really up to you, so are the max downloads pr day/week/month.
I'm not using any settings in the TV/Movies pane so I'll skip that and go to the MUSIC pane.
MUSIC PANE

Im not using any options here, but the EXCEPT tags... I wish I could, but when I tried nothing happend, no downloads so I worked around it.
UPDATED 27/09
Code:
UPDATE END
Feel free to add more tags to this if you find deadweight tags, and please post them in a reply for discussion/amendment to this list, but AVOID using "wide" tags like pop, rock, jazz etc.
I am not using any of the other special setting, only setting I feel is worth mentioning is the priority setting under the ACTION PANE, set that to HIGH, so that your seedbox will use max resources on downloading files, and thus improve the seedsurge for you. (dont forget to set save folder)

This post is useable as is now, but I will come back and improve the looks and update filter options as I get more statistic material to work with
HAPPY BUFFERING, and be careful in the beginning until you have a decent buffer.
ALSO the more people who use this filter the more efficient it should become, but it doesnt depend on it, it works fine for me alone.
Torrentseeker out for now.
